Hi all, first time posting here.

I recently dragged this DT2 250 (with a 360 motor) out and plan to do a light restoration. First thing is obviously making sure it will run. For that, I believe I need:
- Main switch (where to source?)
- Flywheel

I have the manual and wiring diagram from the files here on the site already.

Any other thoughts or feedback? is this a good first start? I am having trouble sourcing a main switch - any recomendations?

Edit: Looks like I cannot add images either by upload or hotlink. I guess you'll just have to imagine a very sorry looking machine with parts missing, especially the chopped off main switch with bare wires hanging off the frame, and a disconnected magneto with loose wires (but at least they aren't chopped off!).
Flywheel is missing, and I don't know how to test the mageto. It looks like someone tore in to it for an ignition problem, but hard to say for sure.

DT2 would be 1972, you're title says DT1 1971? there are differences. Check the vin on the frame and motor and head on over to the tech library/vin numbers to see exactly what you have. Switches are getting harder to find. I may have a few. Flywheel i definitely have some of those laying around. You only need the black wire coming from the stator to the coil to make spark just an FYI.

It's a DT2 with 10 wires going to the main switch (brown, black/white, blue/white, green/red, green, white, blue, red, black, yellow).
The stator has 5 wires coming from it (green, green, yellow, white, black)

Good to know about the black to the coil. So I could technically ignore everything else, hard wire (or add a switch) the black to the ciol, and test for spark?

I would be very interested in acquiring a flywheel (with nut and key) from you. Are they all the same? anything I can measure to confirm specifics?

As has been said I think, only the black straight to the coil to run. But if the switch is removed it should still run with loom all connected as the switch just earth's out the source coil to stop it so no switch & got to run. Just remember you can't stop it easily. But anyway--flywheel could possibly become a headache as one 360 year piston port motor had advanced mechanism built in therefore a fat cam & points are set further out from centre on the plate. May be obvious if you had two plates to compare, standard & advance type but it's a long time since I've been there.

72-73 DT250 and RT360 use the same electrical components should you want to find a key switch. 68-73 250/360 flywheels are the same and so is the stator if I'm not mistaken. What I've done on a few rat bikes of mine is i buy the kill switch button that's used on the MX models like a 74 MX250. You get a 3 way connector and simply attach the kill button wire, the black wire from the stator and wire coming out of the coil together. Its that simple. Those buttons are available on ebay. search Yamaha mx250 kill switch button youll see new for around $15.
