Houston we have a problem... was created by AirborneSilva
So I was changing the stator side crank seal and while cleaning the area where the seal sits I noticed the part of the bearing that the rod goes through will spin, I'm pretty sure that aint right!

That's a bugger. Gotta be fixed one day if not now. Could "try" laying it over totaly flat then use a loctite prep then try to work some loctite down on there. Otherwise it's replace the crank half or build up & machine which we did with a few yamaha v50 scooters back in the day. If it's "only just" turning with no up & down to feel it'll survive for a good while yet--but isn't good. Chances are if you dismantle you'll be able to measure the wear even if it's not visible except for being polished. Might be minimal wear in the bearing ring but you'd be very lucky if a new bearing fixes it. You might think yay it's tight pressing on then get to the last bit & --damn--loose. Don't get confused by c3-c4 or std clearance as that's in the ball race area not the fit on the shaft. Have a happy day, now I've ruined it sorry.

It's all good Morely, as much as I wish it wasn't what it is I can't change it just have to deal with it. Maybe this will be the push I need to try my hand at splitting the cases. As far as up and down movement I didn't see any but then really wasn't looking for it either.

Loctite now has a line of "wick in" products that could be tried. I think they call them "after lock" or something like that. I got a free sample at the hardware store and tried it out. It actually worked really good!
I'd try to spray some brake clean a few times and blow it out with air to try to clean and dry it as good as possible, but it might just work if you lay the bike on its side as RT325 suggested.
(and add a few drops of oil to the bearing afterwards in case the brake clean washes it dry)

Thanks Mark, I guess I should have posted this before I put the new seal in and got it all back together. Oh well, I guess it's good practice.

Hi guys, so I got me some loctite that withstands heat up to 450*. I'm wondering if I apply a bit of heat with a heat gun around the area of the bearing and crank if it would help to pull the loctite in.

I'm no loctite expert so don't know but wouldn't want it to set before getting in & around if that can happen!!. Just dribble it around then move the shaftvevery which way untill it finds its way in-- & hopefully not in then out the back-- just stop when you think it's there. Then I guess there's - is the shaft central, but can't do a lot about that except hope. See what the experts on loctite say. I'm just kicking the subject off.
