Have you ridden for a while, or are you new to riding Yamahas? I know that initially, and this is many many moons ago, it took a little bit to get used to hitting neutral, but after a while it comes to you. Just shift all the way down to first, then a very gentle lift up. Also seems to work easier if you go into neutral as you're coasting to a stop.

High idle speed or dragging clutch can make it hard too.

Also make sure you have the neutral detent spring and ball under the cap on top of the engine just above the front sprocket area.  #25 though #28 in diagram here:  www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcycle/1972/lt2/shifter-a

A too viscous gearbox oil will cause the clutch to drag , and makes finding neutral tricky .
It might be worth changing out .

The previous owner told me he’s using the Lucas Motorcycle 10w-40 oil on this engine . Good enough ?

Unlikely but worth mentioning. 28 is the neutral locating ball & spring. I'm still leaning towards clutch drag though. & if it is that & you have it apart then leave out the rubber spreader rings as cause more trouble than they're worth. Pic coming shortly No7 in the clutch pic & if in there, there should be 4 of them.

Also clutch actuator No3 likes being lubed if you can get some oil into it. Pic is a bit confusing as doesn't come apart to lube so just move it & get oil into it or grease but won't flow like oil. I see they call it 'push screw' for want of a better word.

Right behind the neutral switch is a hex head plug at at angle.  Kind of hidden by clutch cable in your picture.  Spring and ball should be under that.

That oil should be fine.
