Oil tank retainer cables 73 CT3 was created by Dennis D

Where, pray tell, do the cables on the oil tank attach to the bike? Or, did the 175's not use them?
I see no pins on the frame, battery box, ect. that look like the ones on the tank. Thanks, Dennis

On my CT-1 there's connection points on each side of the battery box.

I'm fairly certain that for some reason Yamaha deleted the pins and cables from the battery box on the 72-73 CT models.  AT still had them.

I think you can use an earlier CT1 battery box if you want the cables.

That era of the 175 is not my strong point...  I think it's because of those darn "flip top" gas caps.  My LT2 had that style and it always leaked gas and soak my blue jeans which really burned. (chemical burn)  Or I would not fill the tank too full and invariably run out and have to push home.   I have never owned another 72-74 Yamaha since...  I see that cap and NOPE.  Not having it.

Appreciate the responses. No sign of pins on the battery box on the CT3. Guess I
have a couple of cables I'm not gonna need

. Kinda surprised they would do away
with them as the tank has to be removed (loosened) to service the air filter.

I don't think it would be too hard to figure out a way to fasten those cables to the battery box, or somewhere else. Just because the factory decided to take them off doesn't mean you have to live without them.

True, but I tend to be a "as it left the factory" kinda guy. Yes, it is a sickness. I'll just throw
a few wire ties in the toolbox and use them if I have to get into the airbox out on a ride.

The solution could be as simple as just tying some very thin flexible insulated wire to the small eyelets that would have connected to the battery box posts, and just looping that around something on the opposite side of the battery box. It wouldn't be a permanent alteration, but it would allow you to lower the oil tank down to do work on the bike.

Pete, do you happen to know if earlier battery box with retaining cable posts will fit CT2/3?

That would be the most elegant solution...  or duct tape.

My CT3 does not have them. I always thought the cables were there to hold the tank for battery removal. If I recall the battery on the ATs and the later DT 125s come out the side as opposed to lifting it out from the top. Have to admit that I am unsure about the earlier CTs.

Cheers
