1982 DT2 250 blew hole in piston was created by wbrewstersr@gmail.com

  Hi everyone
well my bike lost compression took the head off and found a hole in the piston I think it was from running to lean
the needle jet was on the second clip from the top
I lowered it one notch I am waiting on a piston and a flywheel puller to check the timing
my question is the piston I pull out has two rings
apparently the one I ordered is only going to have
one ring it show original new old stock for DT2
should I attempt to use the piston with one ring or order another one with two
thanks
I attached a picture it the piston with hole

I'm not really sure but I seem to remember that the YZ's used to have 1 ring for racing. Looks like the engine was pinging.

That's a shame. All the shrapnel goes down the bottom too. Better up the jetting & go for a cold plug like NGK9 as i guess you're giving it a hard time on the trails or highway. Is the piston kit you have coming the mx or yz type with a cutaway on the inlet side rather than two window holes. Single ring will be good--now you have it ordered. Pic of the piston kit would be nice, or a link to where you bought it just for a look. Thanks.

Check for intake air leaks also. Clean your carb real good and triple check all of the passages in the carburator very thoroughly.
When you get it back together take it easy on the engine and let the piston ring seat a bit and check the plug. Using a regular dinosaur oil and not a sythetic could give you a bit of ash to tune the bike better as the plug will read better.
