Remove the chrome heat shield first if you decide to burn out the pipe... The heat from burning out the pipe may ruin the chrome.

Burning out may not be needed unless your pipe is carboned up.

A good ride is the best thing to start with... usually once it's warmed up good the smoke will clear up.
