Year of Trailmaster? was created by dmcarthur
The serial number for my Trailmaster is L5 016232 and I have been unable to find the year and model number. This bike was sold in Canada. Any ideas? I can't seem to find any codes like this.

It's likely a 100cc L5T. The 1970 L5TA was the last version sold in the USA and reportedly ended with VIN L5-015810. (Assuming it has a conventional motorcycle gas tank layout between the rider's knees, it may have also been called a YL5TA. The "Y" prefix in the 1960's meant a conventional layout, an "M" prefix during that era was the "step through frame" with the gas tank under the seat.)
Your number is slightly higher than that so it's likely around a 1970-71 vintage and likely very similar to the US 1970 L5TA.
Unfortunately most of the information available today (even on the Internet) on parts and identification is based on the USA models. BUT Yamaha sold the 80cc and 100cc "pressed frame" models in other countries for many more years, mostly in Southeast Asia.

Thank you so much for the great information. Yamaha must have continued to sell them in Canada after 1970. I checked the label and it says that the year of manufacture was 1971. It looks very similar to the 1970 US models.

Certainly for the slightly later models, bikes with VINs beyond the range designated for the US have been found in Canada.
