"What will you be doing, indicator wise? I note that the bike has the older style left switch."
Alan, I'll be sticking my arm out.

=====================

In California, pre-January 1st 1973 bikes aren't required to have turn indicators. However a couple buddies were recently riding their exempt bikes along PCH and were pulled over for no turn signals. They explained the exemption, but the officer wasn't buying it. They kept insisting, so he called moto officer, who confirmed it (he could have Goggled it as well). Daytime running lights are exempt on bikes up to January 1st 1978 as well. However I'm glad I have both, just to avoid being hassled by "the man", as we said back in 1971. :o)

That AT-1 sounds great! I always loved the look of white AT-1s, which is the first bike I lusted over.

I still use hand signals, even when driving a car!

It's interesting hearing about the different customs around the world...  a lot of drivers here in the USA still use hand signals too!

I'm curious if the common hand signals "shaking your fist" and "extending the middle finger" have the same meanings in the UK as they do in the US?

Indeed they do, as well as an up and down motion, with the thumb and first finger pinched together!

Mind you, not really relevant if directed at a female driver!

Ah the universally global hand signals. Last year I rode up alongside a young lady who was stopped at a red light. She was busy texting on her phone when she made eye contact with me. So I gave her the universal hand signal for “keep your eyes on the road”. You know the one where you alternately point two fingers at your eyes and then you point ahead.

She responded with another universal hand signal being the female version with the middle finger fully extended and the other fingers half folded as opposed to making a fist. That female version seems to have more of an effect then the male fisted version. And being as deaf as I am, I was quite able to read her lips while she emphasized her hand signal. She was saying something about an Old Man…….

"Repro buttons with spring are available and I've probably got used spares in my switch stash."

Al by all means have a look for me.
The repro buttons I've seen appear to be for the later version switches, but I might be wrong.
I did rob and modify one from an aftermarket switch I had, but it's too long.
I visited my AT1-C at the weekend (it's away for the winter in my mate's garage) and took the dimensions I need to make one.
Diameter is 7.6mm and it protrudes 7mm from the switch face.

Here's the one made from the aftermarket switch.

This is probably going a bit OTT, just for originality!

So on with hand signals… some of the younger folks around here do not know what I’m doing when I use them. Is this a world wide issue?
