Restoration parts sources? was created by Bp299

So, I dove down the rabbit hole and framed by bastardized 69 CT1 and would like to do a full resto on it.I plan on going completely thru the motor, blasting the cases, stripping the wrong colors off and painting/powder coating back to OEM.  Also, want to replace all cables, bearings, and other wear parts. Other than ebay, any other good sources for parts? Sources for good painters for the tanks? In the US or?

Here is the before pic of the batmobile.

KDI Reproductions

Clauss Studios

2 Brothers Painting in Oklahoma.

P.S. "Powder coating" was never "OEM" on that model.

Oh, and don't forget YAMAHA! Many overpriced "rare" NOS parts sold on ebay are still available new from Yamaha.

 from near Salisbury, UK.

In addition to info shown in previous posts, I use CMSNL for reference (some useful photos there) and parts - in the US you have Partzilla, amongst others.

For both CMSNL and Partzilla, if you select a part number and scroll down, other models that also used that part are shown, so don't limit your fleabay search to just your model. Neither list shows every fitment, as neither site has every single parts list on their database.

I have had great success in my own search for small parts in buying job lots - keep what you need and sell on what you don't.

Don't forget to replace the brake shoes, still available from Yamaha.

Great sources, thanks.
Yambits seems to have good prices and selection also.

Couple specific questions:
Does anyone make steering stem bearings other than the balls?
Source for an OEM or similar carb?
Does anyone restore the gauges?
What are the correct paint colors/codes Californian Orange and the silver for fenders?

Also, how do you know if the oil injector is working properly? Asking for a friend who may have seized his. :0

I think that All Balls do tapered head bearings, but the upper races are likely too high/tall. Some have fitted tapered lower and standard upper but, personally, I'd stick with standard. The races are available from Yamaha and I get the ball bearings from a bicycle shop.

Fleabay, or a wanted advert on this forum, is your best bet for an oem carb. Is yours missing/damaged?

If you're in the US, then DEET here on this forum restores gauges (or you could buy used replacements). If you're in the UK, I have a contact on another forum who offers this service.

There are instructions in the Yamaha Service Manual (see Tech Library) on how to check the oil pump.

So just replacing the ball bearings is typical?

Any other painter sources? 2 bros want $1500 for the paintwork.
Also, best source for piston kits and other engine parts, bearing & seals other than Yamaha?

Replacing the ball bearings and new grease is the way to go if you want all original. The tapered bearings are great but as mentioned you usually have spacing issues at the top.
I believe Enduronut on here has access to pistons/rings.
PM me on paint.
