Drat! Suddenly no lights on CT-1 was created by Tom P

My CT-1 has been running great for months. Took a long ride yesterday, all was well. Tonight I turned on the key, and no neutral light, no turn signals, or brake lights. It starts up fine, and both the headlight and tail are on (I wired the tail light to the magneto), but no turn lights, horn, brake or neutral. Checked battery voltage, it's fine. Checked the fuse, it's fine. I'm guessing another wire came loose under the ignition switch? BTW I put a voltage regulator on it months ago. Just tossing this out there, as I go to bed. I'll dig in tomorrow...

I'd guess ya right about the switch wire. See what transpires.

Yep, the red wire came loose again. The old sheath is so stiff, every time I turn it puts stress on it. I probably made a mistake by zip tying it to try to make it neater, I'll make sure there's some more movement available. I wish when they built this switch that they had a stress relief clamp at the very bottom, but they didn't.

Pretty sure there originally was a "stress relief" inside the adapter bracket the switch bolts to... inside the black part in the upper right of your first picture.

Two metal tabs that you bent around the harness to hold it. They are often missing.

I don't see any screw holes in it where a stress clamp could go, though the hole that it goes through in the triple tree provides a little bit of relief.

I was thinking after I posted that the black bracket was aluminum and couldn't have tabs...  but I know I've seen stress relief...  so I dug into my box of electrical and found one.

Might be something they started on the later models?  DEET or Enduronut would probably know.  But maybe you could make something like this up and solder it in place?

Or if your switch doesn't have a "null" solder point you can use...  maybe take a Dremel and grind away the inner edge around one of the screws all the way down to where the screw tightens.  Area I colored in red.

Then it would be easy to make a little bracket that goes under the screw.

I sure didn't see a bracket like that, and I think I was the first person to take the switch off. Those are great ideas, but in the meantime I took a piece of foam pipe insulation and some electrical tape, and made a stress reliever out of it. I remounted it, and when I turn the forks back and forth, it seems to stay still really well.

This is where, if we're lucky, sites like CMSNL, Partzilla etc can come in handy.

See attached link to photos on CMSNL of the switch as new. In the second photo, you can just see the stress relief part. From memory, it's probably riveted to the switch base plate.
