Front Fender was created by Crazy Horse 124

I am a newbie so forgive me if this has been answered 300 times before. I have a 71 DT1E and the front fender was replaced. I have acquired one and my question is are the front fenders the same for AT1, CT-1 and the bigger bikes (DT1 and RT1) ?

from Salisbury, UK and I liked your story on your first post.

The AT models had the slightly smaller fender and brackets, the DT and RT ones had the larger ones. It looks like the CT models also had the larger fender, except the 1971 CT1C, which had the smaller one (according to the CMSNL website).

The individual forward stays are quite bent at the front end on the smaller fenders, but much straighter on the larger ones.

If you plan on using the lights and keeping the 6v electrics, then be sure to fit a 6v voltage regulator (see attached). Also replace both sets of brake shoes, unless you know when they were last changed (they can delaminate!

Alan I’m going to disagree with the Dutch on this one.
The CT1-C front fender is bigger than the AT fender.
It’s the same size as the earlier CT1 and CT1-B fender but it is the all steel version not the aluminium with riveted steel mount version.
Here’s an original article showing the larger fender with the lesser angled front stays.

I have to admit, Pete, that I did hesitate before posting my reply. However, with my CT1C being fitted with the smaller fender and CMSNL showing this as correct, then I thought that I'd post accordingly.

At the end of the day, Crazy Horse just needs to make sure he eyeballs any fender before buying, to make sure that it comes with the straighter brackets.

Wow Gr8uncleal... you got CMSNL to modify their parts lists to match your bike?

That's awesome!

Have a butchers at the Partzilla lists - that confuses things (well, me anyway!) even more.

Looks like I lucked out and the front fender I had on the shelf is a 250 fender. I needs a little body work and a repaint.
Is there a rattle can color out there thats close to the original color?

Duplicolor DE1615 Aluminum is pretty close.

I used the Dulipcolor DE1615 Aluminum on my DT2 and will on my DT400 but you have to be careful when spraying and not get too much in one spot or it will "Tiger stripe".

I also used DupliColor DE1615 on my front/rear fenders and chain guard, which were all super rusty. Stripped them down to bare metal with an angle grinder and paint stripper disc, then primered first. Technique is very important, don't linger in any one spot or you'll get runs and tiger stripes.

it's a bit brighter than the original paint. In the pictures you can compare it to my rusty lower fork tubes, which I haven't painted yet.

Because I'm not going to repaint the rusty frame, tank and headlight bucket, I'm leaving some patina on the fork tubes and tail light bracket. I'm just using Gibbs lubricant on all the rusty parts, and it really improves the look, and helps stop further rusting.
