Stale fuel deposit was created by RT325

Just a bit of useless info.
A while ago i had to unblock the jets on my DT1, a job i hate doing but our crap fuel just makes a hell of a mess if left for 6 months or so. Bike ran good for a few months then got left parked mostly. But recent use had it being so lean on the needle i had to choke it through to get above it. Got the better of me so went looking. Couldn't find what i thought was the cause--nothing blocked--i thought. Ended up the powdery blue stuff was growing all the way up the needle jet internally where the needle slides. looking up from the bottom i couldn't see the metering step near the top. So started scratching by revolving a splitpin & all this blue stuff kept coming out, so kept going until clean & she's all good again. Was effectively trying to meter it & restrict it all the way up the needle. Needle jet looked good externally after removal but not internally. It's a 32mm off an RT1 on that, but same carb design as original 26mm or whatever they were, only bigger. So there's always something new to catch us out.

Here in the land of corn (Iowa) we are offered a choice at the pump.15% methanol or non alcoholic.Fuel used to be priced so the E15 or what ever they call it was a couple cents a gallon cheaper to run, about 10% less efficient, now it's about 20% $ more for the good stuff. { insert political rant here}.I let my sport car set 1 year with the blended fuel, it didn't start- fuel pump not working. The car is 20 years old so it seemed reasonable. The pump was a corroded melted mess. I mean Holy S*#^ what happened mess.Av fuel is probably the safest bet for any storage.JC

jcarr i feel your pain haha. Might try higher octane option here & see if i get the same result. Can get Race Gas from a reasonably local service station, that'd fix it. I always intend to drain the carb & tank but never happens as think i'll use the bike again soon--then don't.
