Placement of voltage regulator on 1970 RT1 and 1972 RT2 was created by Alert
Looking for recommendations on voltage regulator placement on these two models that has worked out well. Have seen them in headlight buckets and attached under gas tank.

I think that fellow member Mauser fitted his to the horn bracket and I shall probably fit mine to one of the lower fork clamp bolts. In theory this keeps them in the air flow to help cool them, but I'm not sure how hot they get anyway.
So anywhere out of the way is probably fine, but the farther away from the headlight bucket, the longer the wire you'll need to splice it in.

on my DT360 I put regulator into headlight bucket using a simple bracket I made and ran a ground wire from bracket to unused black terminal to get a solid ground. It was a snug ordeal, but worked out okay.
On my DT1E I decided to run a wire from headlight shell blue wire that powers headlight and gauge lights and mounted regulator on one of the coil mounting bolts, again with a solid ground lead. This made the situation in the headlamp bucket a bit easier as I was pressed for space after installing the 35/35W Octane halogen lamp that takes up more volume (works great btw! - thx MarkT)
so much fun getting to know the wiring on these bikes and getting them back to full operational!

I’ve recently purchased a regulator and harness extension from DEET and plan to locate just behind factory rectifier mounted to a piece of metal strapping using the same bolt as the exiting rectifier mount.

Back in the day some dealers mounted the original Stanley voltage regulator to the back of the airbox with bolts by drilling 2 holes in the box and installing a ground wire from one of the bolts to the frame. I have 2 Enduros that were done this way.
The hours spent riding my Enduros is not deducted from my life span.
