Found a great CT1 tank this week courtesy of Huggy's Speed Shop, which gives me the option to keep the bike more original.
The previous tank with the dent of all dents is coming along nicely after I had another go at pushing the dents out to minimize the filler.
I'll keep going with it, but for now I'm going to press on with this latest tank.
Managed to get the dent out of this one to a good standard, heat gun is important to stop the paint cracking.
I imagine the previous owner had a left testicular incident with it, ouch.
Used the same bent threaded bar, modified the bends so I could reach the dent and this time I covered the business end with an old rubber mudguard mount and wrapped it with insulation tape.
Tank is very solid with minimal corrosion, but lots tar-like deposits inside, so tomorrow, after picking up some dishwasher salt I'm going to attempt to clean the inside by electrolysis, never tried it before.
That's it until next time, will update after the electrolysis, with the before and after photos.

Electrolysis, what can I say, fun, effective and cheap to do.
Thanks from me to the chap on this video, which I watched to learn the process, he explains it very well.
Really pleased with how well it turned out for me, sorry about the inside photos, it's hard to get a decent photo of the inside of the tank.
The rust/crap volcano was impressive at times, I did wax the tank before to give a bit of protection and it's cleaned up very well now.
I had a bit of trouble with flash rusting after flushing with water, but had some POR15 Prep left from when I lined my RT1 tank and with a box of self tapping screws and 10 minutes shaking it I managed to sort that.
I moped the inside with a rag on the end of a long flexible brush then poured a little oil in and moped that around with a fresh rag on the brush.
If you've got a rusty tank I'd definitely give it a go.

Morley that's very kind of you to say.
It was my mate Shyted that kept on at me to try it, he certainly has a great skill set when it comes to these bikes just like you do.
I've been torn between powder coat and paint for the black parts (frame etc.) and finally come to the conclusion that overall powder coat is the best choice for me.
I'm a bit OCD with these bikes, poorly painted tank pinstripes always catch my eye or an 8.8 stamped bolt just wont do, but I can live with powder coat on a frame.
It's not a high end bike and given the damp climate we have here in the UK for so many months I think the powder coating will fare better than paint over time.
I'll have plenty of painting to do with the other bits.

Beautiful spring day today so I took the opportunity with the other '69 tank in my topbox to go to Paint Services - Reading so they could use that tank as the colour match for the "ultra dented" tank.
Watched Roland use the spectrophotometer on the tank, which the computer then analyses and comes up with the closest version it can, apparently the paint they mixed for me was very close to the sample.
Had a great chat with him explaining what I was up to with the bikes, he was a nice chap and even gave me a discount without me asking.
Managed a nice 70 mile country ride on the Honda too, but nobody here will be interested in that

Weather here looks good tomorrow so I might be painting some tinware.

Got some painting done today.
Ran out of white primer, so oil tank hasn't been done, but with the weather so good I didn't want to miss the opportunity to get the rest painted.
Side by side the fresh paint is fractionally lighter than the original paint, but I haven't clear coated yet so that will have an effect.
Couple of inclusions to deal with, but that's the joy of amateur painting in your own garage.
Happy with the results, especially if you remember the size of the dent in this tank when I got it.
