I have enjoyed working on this bike in particular. The reason is the original owners live near me and I talk to them all the time in passing. Before this bike, I was strictly business when buying bikes but I could tell the owners were sentimental about their bike. The bike was actually titled in her name and was largely used by her.

The plan is I will finish "cleaning up" the bike, then ride it over for a view and ride. He has stopped by not less than 5 or 6 times to see what I was working on since I bought it. Is that great or what?

That is NOT where this ends!! He has a BSA 441 MX. The 441 was a pure work of art, maintained VERY clean.

getting frame ready for engine. always more cleaning to do. still waiting on friction disks, but won't be putting cover on until I'm sure clutch is functional.


noted which orientation and thickness of old friction (3.90mm) and drive plates (1.67mm). prev owner had shims on screws to tighten springs. started with drive plates first at base. bought new springs, and probably won't shim the pressure plate spring screws as was prev done.

That clutch needs to end with a metal drive plate going on last.  Don't follow the parts diagram.  

There is an cutaway engineering drawing in the Service manual that shows the correct assembly.

Appreciate the info. I remember you posting this previously and installed as you stated w/both the DT360A and DT125A most recently. Both were successful. Still waiting on friction plates for the CT1.
