74 GT80 Carburettor question was created by Gate88
I have a 74 GT80 which I restored, however after it had been laid up fr the winter I had to pull the carb off and clean out the jets, float bowl etc. Somehow when doing this I managed to bend what I believe is the "choke pipe" (the brass looking pipe that pokes down into the float bowl) and when I went to straighten it it almost broke off completely. My question is can this be replaced? I'm hoping I don't have to buy a new carb!

Couple288-14341-03-00On ebay main nozzle. You may need the jet that screws in the bottom also.

Thanks for the reply but I think we are talking at cross purposes. I have just tried for nearly an hour to post a link to a photo that shows the pipe in question but can't get the forum to accept the photo or the link. I'm actually talking about the the pipe hangs down from the carb body and fits into a hole in the side of float bowl. Hope this makes sense? This might work?

One or two more posts and you should be able to add photos. If you didn't already know, you have to use a third party host, such as Imgur, for photos.
Here is a link to the relevant page in the parts manual - maybe say which number you are referring to, if it is shown as an item.

Yea this is the annoying thing, I've done a million searches and its not shown on the diagram you've posted either. If you do a search on Ebay for a Yamaha GT80 Carb Kit you'll see the kit comes with a gasket. That Gasket has five holes in it, four on each corner, these are for the screws that hold the float bowl on and the fifth, slightly off centre, is the one that my broken pipe goes through. Hopefully I'm making sense? imgur.com/a/JG2clVA

My thinking is that you'll have to drill out the stub that's left in the carb and then press fit a suitably sized length of brass tube to replace the original. However, let others confirm.

Do you think that this is something to do with the choke?

You are making perfect sense. I couldn't find a pic or diagram of a GT80 TK carb, but Mikuni used the same little tube for the starting circuit (aka "choke")
It can almost certainly be repaired. If you don't have the skills/tools to patch (if possible) or replace the tube as Alan described, a good machine shop or maybe even a jeweler might be able to help.

Thanks for your help. There are some cheap Mikuni Chinese carbs for sale on eBay, while one of those is probably not ideal the pipe I need would come with it and with a bit of heat & some gentle brute force I might be able to remove it. Then filling it to mine shouldn't be a problem even with my limited skillset!

Not sure if Mikuni or especially the copies would have the right size?
Good hardware stores, hobby shops, and even Amazon sells tiny brass tube in various sizes.
My local Ace Hardware has a "K&L Metals" display with a few sizes. I repaired a cracked brass Mikuni overflow tube with it once.
