Looked at a CT1 Today. was created by pabdt
Literally a block from my house. I had no idea. 1969, original owner. Has a decompression valve WITH cable and lever. Was that a stock option on this bike?
has really good compression. Engine is not original, but owner has original. States orig has a broken shift drum. Thats fixable. Engine sounded great.
What do you guys think something like this is worth? I know what I think, but I'm not dialed to this series of bikes and the market.

It’s worth whatever you’re willing to pay for it.
Me myself, because I’m missing that year 175, I would offer $900, but I would bring $1,500……

I'm with Schu. I have a 71 CT1 in pretty much original condition (running with title) and I would be pretty happy with $1,500 to $2,000. If it runs good and has a title that is about the range but I would definitely start below $1,000 because you are going to find more than meets the eye including the shift drum. I would be concerned about what broke the shift drum because to me that is a bit unusual. Of the five badge bikes I own, I have never seen that one but I am definitely not a mechanic.

So the engine in the bike is good PLUS you'd get the original engine, with a broken shift drum? Not only could you fix that, but you could just use the old engine for spare parts! Looks like they added stripes on the fenders? I don't think they had that in '69. I also don't think they came stock with decompression valves, but back in the day many of us installed them on our CT-1s. I still have mine, but it's not installed. Was just for braking on steep dirt. Pricing around here on that could go way over $2K, but make a low offer and see where it goes. Looks pretty clean!

Broken shift drum was often caused by a thrown chain so if it's important to you to use the original engine someday, take a look at the cases. VIN number stamping or other critical parts sometimes get taken out when a chain lets go.
Definitely aftermarket compression release.

As Mark says, more than likely a thrown chain. Easy fix & done lots without dismantling by threading straight in with a 6mm allen screw & a small washer the overlaps the case but can move inside the three screw cover so its retained to the left. Then put a new three screw cover over it. If one screw hole has been broken then two screws will work. Cover is only to look pretty & stop any oil but has an easy job high up there.

wonder if drilling the retaining cap with holes through it, then plug welding it to each pin would strengthen it? warning: i'm not familiar w/the internal part of that bike. I'll look at what he broke, then figure it out.

Pabdt that looks like a great find to me, not many of the '69 model around.
Looks like it has the makings of a lovely winter project.
The tank badges look like the self adhesive ones and they should be black, the red ('69 AT1) screw on badged are available in the US and can be repainted black without too much trouble.

Good catch Pete. So were the screw on black badges the correct ones? I'm seriously thinking about buying it. I was out working on my 125 yesterday. He drove by and blew the horn. It looks like a solid bike.

I find that it's best to "seriously think it over" after you've already bought it and you are sitting on it in your garage.
I've never had someone beat me to the punch when using that method of thinkology.
