Another Hello from (not so) sunny UK .... was created by Jimbobaroobob

Good day to all and thanks for letting me join this forum
I'm in Derbyshire (middle England) and have just bought a 1973 DT3 250 for restoration.
Good to see Andy recently joined and a few others from 'the Island'.
I had the bike running before I began strip down, it's in 'OK' condition and would like to get it back to a 'good standard', strip down, powder coat frame, repaint tank etc, brake and fork overhaul...
I've also joined the facebook group, I have lot's of questions and hope you can share some advice from all the experience here.
I've already had a good look around and found some very good data in the Technical library, massive thanks goes to all those who contribute.
I tried to attach a photo but need to read up on this process as I get the message 'Failed to create attachment directory'.

 from near Salisbury, Wiltshire.

I've got the same bike, so fire away with any questions.

If a previous owner hasn't already done so, replace both sets of brake shoes - originals are still available from Yamaha.

Repro cables are available from KDI in the US - see the banner on the right side of the screen.

If sticking with the 6v system and you want a working headlight, then fit a 6v voltage regulator - official Service Bulletin from Yamaha is in the Tech Library.

welcome from OC CA USA!
additional tip for what its worth - might want to start her up on premix with pump bled and refilled with clean oil to make sure output is spec before going straight gas

Sound advice thanks. First few starts done with premix and oil pump disconnected, when I took the cover off the pump the pin had been removed so no increase in oil with more throttle so will need to sort this on the rebuild. I also need the banjo for the connection of the delivery pipe into the pump. Looking on the parts list it shows a banjo bolt but mine is a push fit into the pump. Any ideas other than buying a whole new pump appreciated! Thanks again

Assuming that you have the right pump and the thread is still present and usable, then the banjo bolt is still available from Yamaha. Cheapest method for most new parts is to order through your local dealer.

If you id a long list of parts that you need, not all of which are still available from Yamaha, then it is worth putting together a large order from CMSNL - they have a fair stash of new old stock (nos) parts.

If the pump is not just a "place holder" and is working with engine running, the press-in outlet fittings are also available from Yamaha.  They went to the press-in type in 1974 or so but could have happened earlier possibly?  DEET would probably know.

Also make sure you actually have a 1973 model and not a 1974.  Most 1974 models were manufactured in 1973 and that is the date reflected on the steering head decal which sometimes results in incorrect model on the title and registration.  For some models and years, it doesn't matter much.  But 1974 was a "new design" year and a 1974 250 model will have a lot of different parts compared to the 1973 250.  (The press-in oil pump outlet fitting is one of them)  Verify your VIN in the tables to positively ID the model.

You'll also need the ball and spring.
