If they had an aftermarket cable one in the cylinder head, it's not really for starting... Use the chainsaw/Harley one in the head. You press the button and it closes itself.
Bad kickback is usually a timing/tuning issue. If tuning is correct, doesn't kick back unless maybe a really weak kick through was used... If timing is off, will still kick like a mule with a compression release.

That ebay one looks like it has short threads... would be better to get one with the correct 3/4" long thread reach adapter to match the plug thread depth in the head.

Incredibly helpful! Just so I make sure - the CRA-1 has 14mm threads into the spark plug hole, then it has 10mm up top for the compression release valve to screw properly into?

When I bought my 73 DT3 250, the guy also had a beautiful 73 RT3 360 for sale and at 3300 and fully restored I was thinking I'd buy it instead. I took the 250 for a ride and it was fine. Then the guy pulled out the 360. He had a small stool that he used for his left leg to stand on and he was a big tall guy too, but he said you had to kick that bike like you were in a fight for your life. So...I let him start it up and it kicked back but he got it running after a few more kicks. He said the same thing, don't want your leg extended if it kicks back. I rode it and it ran great and was fast. But.....me being 5'6" and trying to kick that thing regularly, well, I bought the 250. He had a collection of about 25 bikes and all the Kawasaki triple models too, but he said the 360 was the one he rode the least. The compression release looks to be the ticket and if I had know about them I probably would have brought the 360 home! It was quick.

I have a 1972 360 RT2 . All it does is kick back but won’t start. Not sure why, but my leg is tired of the punishment. Any ideas?
