Battery Fitment Advice Needed was created by RT1
ADMINS: IF THIS QUESTION IS MIS-CATEGORIZED PLEASE MOVE IT AS NECESSARY
Good Sunday morning all.
This question is for those that have experience in having converted their electrical systems to 12v.
I recently added a VAPE system and now require a 12v battery.
Although an RT1, I do have a larger RT2/3 battery box installed.
Nonetheless, I am having no luck at all finding a battery that fits within the stock RT2/3 battery box.
I did purchase (for temporary use of testing) a very small battery on the suggestion of a friend (airborne silva) who had success with it fitting his bike, but his bike is a '74 DT, and there is apparently a difference. So, it was helpful for testing only.
Is there anyone that has knowledge of a 12v battery that'll fit this bike / battery box?
I'd sure appreciate knowing what others have done.
TIA

Good morning Pete, actually my bike is a 76 DT400. The battery is I have and suggested to you is smaller than original so I just added padding around it to fit the battery box better. Like I told you it's working fine with my bike but haven't put in any real running time so I can't say how well it will hold up under long periods of running time. Not being very good with electrical it could last and work for years or running it for any length of time could burn it up... Hope your weekend is going well!
EDIT: It would be nice if these places that sell batteries on-line would give dimensions, some have but they were of no help.

My biggest issue is the height which prevents me from using the one I have even though it works for you.
Shimming the length and width isn't an issue.

Gotcha! I've thought about going to Battery Mart on Merrit Island with the dimensions and see what they can come up with, I think I may have better results then trying to ask these places by e-mail...

I wonder if the emergency electric trailer brakes battery would be appropriate until you do find a better fitment ?

Sneezles - I'll try using that in my search words. Thus far I've been looking at power sports , alarm and kid's battery operated toy batteries. I've visited different mfgs. websites and would scour the specs of their models focusing on dimensions.
I'm certainly not the first one in this group to have made this conversion on an RT or DT. Someone has had success in this.
If a battery can't be found, the bike can be re-wired so no battery will be required... but I think that also creates a situation of a headlight that brightens & dims with motor operation.
Tony - good idea also. They may be able to do a computer search based on dimensions. I'll send you my dimensions so you can kill two birds with one stone.

My first port of call would be to ask the seller of the 12v conversion. In this regard, how does this one from Rex's (in the UK) look? Might be available in the US.

Thank you GR8UNCLEAL
It actually looks just like the one I have (which is too tall).
Obviously I can't base anything on a picture alone so I just emailed them for the dimensions.
Fingers crossed for a fit. I wouldn't squawk at paying to get it here if it solves my issue.
Waiting on a response.

This has been discussed here before... I don't remember a solution. Sharing dimensions with the forum would probably help. We don't know what size you need.
