Here's a 1971Yamaha DT-1E with about 2,400 miles, matching numbers, and with the title from 1971 signed today by the original owner. Fenders are mint, no dents, no rust anywhere, instruments, headlight, etc. , it's all there. Just dirty and oily a bit. The chrome on the wheels is near perfect, it's amazing how nice it is under the patina. It's been sitting awhile so I need to pull off the head and check the piston as it's slightly stuck and I won't kick it and break something. Worst case scenario, I have a 250 barrel and on a nice bike like this I would do a fresh top end at Bill Bune's.
Missing the carb but I have a RT3 carb for it unless it is the wrong one for a DT-1. Inside of tank is immaculate, it's a wow find. No damage to fork tubes or engine cases, it's a easy dream restoration. Most likely will need a new wiring harness, the old one is there and looks okay but I'd probably replace it if I did a full restoration.
If anyone here is looking for a project pm me before I decide to keep it, my garage is full and I have had a 71 DT-1E before in Mandarin Orange so I could, maybe part with it. If I start cleaning it I know I'll keep it.

Very nice, but I think you want to keep it, you didn’t mention your location. :ROFLOL

I'll have to lower my truck tray. They never seem to be able to jump high enough to come home with me. Excellent score!!. If it's only lightly stuck just give it a bit of a helping hand on the flywheel & might be riding it by lunch time. Good model that one & nice color.

Thinking I'l pour some marvel mystery oil in the cylinder and let it sit, I'll try moving the fly wheel great tip!
I'm in Reno btw.

You might see where the piston is stuck at since a PO on my 76 DT400 poured Marvel down the spark plug hole and it promptly filled up the exhaust pipe. Needless to say it didn't help. I disassembled the bike and fixed it properly.

Good news Update, pulled a plug and a squirt of wd-40 and it isn't stuck. Seems like there's lots of oil in there so maybe the po pickled it. Guess I'll need to pull the head off.
Will a mikuni carb off a rt3 fit this dt1 if I put in a smaller main jet of a 160?

RT3 carb will bolt right on. There's a 160 main in the '71 I just picked up, so it'll be a good start for yours. Nice score, bike looks really nice!

Guess I'm re-building the RT3 carb that I have. Those four words keep playing in my head...."while you're at it".
