74 125A gearbox leak was created by Youngdrakeo

Hi  guys

my yz125A  has alot of play on the gear lever shaft.(herd it was common on the firsr models?

Which then creates a good gap between the gear lever oil seal and the  shaft.
unless it has the wrong size seal in there. But im guessing its more of worn bush or somthing behind that case cover? Has anyone found a fix?

thanks

Under the cover is a seal for the actual shaft coming out of the cases. That seal has to go bad if it's leaking trans oil at shift lever. I've never seen any "wobble" where the shaft comes out of center cases so a new seal should stop the leak.

(There is a seal at the shift lever... but if leaking oil the other seal in case must be bad.)

That said, the wobble at the shifter might need a new cover and maybe a bushing in the blind hole in the case if really bad. Covers used to be readily available... haven't bought one in a few years. (Just checked, actually still is available from Yamaha, look for it in the "crankcase" section of the parts diagrams)

That first shaft is only short going to a sort of linkage. That little cover is packed with grease but wear out terrible [not a good system]. When all that is off you'll "see the next seal sealing change shaft into the transmission". Can we see the complete bike please. Is it the model with straps holding the tank on [had one of those].

Also, someone may have completely left out the seal that goes around the shaft coming out of the center case.

I've seen that before. My guess is previous owner sees the seal on the cover and doesn't even realize or remember there was a seal on the shaft coming out of cases. Seal in cover just keeps grit and water out of linkage under cover which should be greased as RT325 said.

Seal on shaft coming out of cases is what keeps oil in the trans.
