Someone said--you'll never 'get that going'. So i had to didn't i.
My old Commer truck. Maybe it should be a full stop or question mark, not a Commer,,,.
My younger kids can just remember it running & they're 30+
Was a mission to get the wheels turning. left front in particular but a big hammer & lots of belting freed the shoes off the drum.
Took me a while to find out the left wheel nuts are left hand thread. Amazing how much socket handles with pipe will take without breaking.
Pretty happy to get it fired up & set a slow lap record around the burn pile.
Could have hooked it up a gear & gone full lock sliding but thought my bonnet prop might jump off & take the fuel supply with it haha.
Now it's back where it started, only backed in to keep the motor end out of the wind.
What we do for fun.
Sorry about so many pics in folder i it works but i'm experimenting on google photos so think i can put one link to the folder.

Must be affected by the sun. Haven't seen sun for a while so stupid things happen lol.
UK members might be old enough to remember Commer vehicles.
Only 2.something liter 4 cylinder i think same as a Humber Hawke.
Sorry about the barely watchable quality.
Sister filming & sounding more excited than i am haha.
Wife not impressed with the mess haha, but filmed me in the paddock quite impressed it actualy kept going.
Starter motor brushes wouldn't contact the comutator & likely rushed guides hence smacking with a pipe.
Then starter wouldn't throw out & engage--so more smacking.
Terrible treatment really, poor old Bunny truck.

Wonder what chances of getting a modern truck running after sitting that long? Great you got it running...............

Lots of BS about sustainability, which doesn't seem to be supported by the idea that very things are repairable now, and vehicles in particular have a very short viable service life...............

"She'll be running by lunchtime!"

Well done Morley.

I dare you to take it to your local garage for the NZ equivalent of a UK MoT certificate!

Yes talking a WOF --MOT, reminded me why it won't turn tight one way.
Local garage that used to do what was needed to keep dad Trucking 'so to speak' & never ventured far.
Steering had a lot of backlash straight ahead, so they wound it on a bit & refitted the arm haha.
Worked--as a 'get you by' measure at the time. So it's a 3 point turn one way sort of.

Yes my "she'll be running by lunch time" quote didn't happen with this one i'm afraid.

Bit before my time. But I do recall working on a Commer Triple Knocker at college.

Two stroke, 3 cylinders and six pistons..

I had to look up that 2-stroke Triple Knocker, and what a clever design! No head or head gasket, and very simple mechanically.

Think it was those motors used in the Commer Europa Petrol Tankers back in those days & sounded great when they accelerated away from the intersection up at out corner in the middle of the night. The video brings back memories of that sound, thanks.
