Hello, My old rear shocks are leaking and wrecked. I am looking for new replacements with a very similar look to the OEM ones. Does anyone have any reccomendations? Thanks!

I've been hunting the forum for info on the stock shocks for the LT2 100 and have been unable to find anything about them. One of my current stock shocks does not rebound well so I'm looking for replacements. I've seen many so-called replacements for the stock shocks but they don't provide any specs on their replacements other then their length (bolt-to-bolt) and that "they fit".  Does anyone know what the spring rates are for the LT2 stock shocks? ... Or a reliable source to get a reasonably priced true replacement?

Very very slow progress this week.  I sent the orginal incorrectly supplied fork seals back and ordered some showe replacements from a different vendor.
After a week, it transpires that this vendor has engaged the slowest postal service in the UK.  Still no show.  Getting a bit peeved at the wait now.  It is really holding things up.

Meanwhile I tidied the rear shocks up, but could not get the locking collars for the upper spring retainers to loosen at all without damaging something. Solid.  Blasting and spraying the springs was no longer an option.
much wire brushing and rubbing later and I just sprayed rattlecan enamel into the cap and used an artists brush to paint them.  I did spray the spring retainers though.
They did come up OK but no point in taking a pic.  They look like the ones in the other pics only a bit cleaner and shinier.

I had a look at the seized up speedo drive in the brakeplate.  Rusted solid.  Looked like it was stored 40 years ago, full of muddy water.
Removed the oil seal and applied heat as much as I dared. I managed to avoid the brakeplate transforming itself into a mis shapen silver splash on the floor. Bonus.
Still solid.though.
Cooled down with penetrating oil.  Still solid. Gave the gear a good rattling with hammer and punch on the driving flats on the gear and used an adjustable spanner to try turn it.

Aha! Small movement, but obvious the worm gear was also seized solid.  Gave that a good rattling on the teeth with the tip of a screwdriver blade, then moved the pinion a fraction, then the worm gear, then the pinion....

Eventually freed it off,  dismantled it, cleaned it up and regreased everything with moly grease. Phew.  Pretty intense couple of hours.  Replacement assemblies are like gold dust in the UK.

And we look at my nemesis.  The bodywork.  I am absolutely crap at bodywork.  Made the tank dents a bit better by pushing them out from inside with a tyre lever, but they are going to require filling.  Oh dear.  It is going to end up a mis- shapen wreck.... Filling and shaping dents and cutting wood to size.  Two things I can never do right...

Did you have someone rebuild the shocks or did you do it yourself. I have a set that are in dire need of help and have found no replacements or parts.

Anything shorter will be too short "in my opinion".
Also RD shocks fit on stumps with bigger id of the bush in the eye.
The shock eye is likely wider too, to give it more strength being mounted like that.
All a bit of a guess just thinking back to those days.
If they're good shocks you could modify the ends 'narrow down then' & fit sleeves in the eyes to bring size down to 10mm bolts.
Could even add an eye to an eye--stack on top & weld it to add to the overall length. Like cut an eye of your old shocks to use, to add. Sort of crazy stuff i do to save a dollar lol.
Ok maybe forget 'that'.

I stripped some NJB "Professional" shocks in the past, as I was interested to see what was inside. They had cast iron pistons......................lol

NJB in the UK make some lovely shocks that other members have used.
I met Norman (the owner) at an autojumble where he was displaying and selling his shocks, nice guy and the quality looks very good.

Had S&Ws on my Z1000. Made it slightly better, but concluded that the chewing gum ERW frame, was the main reason for the "interesting" handling..................lol

Very well-made shocks though, and a good choice today as long as not being produced in China.

I had Redwings on my 75 DT250 and recently switched to Progressive Suspension 12 series shocks and the heavy duty springs. Haven't ridden yet so don't know who well the new ones will work.
