72 Yamaha mini 60 JT2 was created by Ruebs66

Good afternoon all. I am having a problem with my little mini. I cannot get the transmission to shift into 4th gear. I have disassembled the clutch side down to the trans output shaft and shifting mech. When I click the shifter down to 4th, the drum rolls over into 4th but it acts like a false neutral. I can get a bit of engagement when I pull all of the endplay out of the trans output shaft, but when I assemble the whole clutch it still has no 4th. I dont know if I am missing any washers between the output shaft and the clutch basket. I have one thickish washer and one thrust bearing

My guess is its blown the circlip off the end of the main shaft letting 4th gear move away & the dogs are just touching the slots. If you lay it over to the right & twiddle the mainshaft the gear might move over & catch the dogs--just to prove a point. Either that or if its been coming on for a long time then worn dogs causing an overheated & bent selector but that's stretching the imagination as they're pretty much bullet proof in there. Circlip #6 moving away from gear #5
