I feel your pain with those Honda carbs. I think today’s fuel is hard on those diaphragms and shortens their lifespan. I like the vintage Yamaha carbs. Even I can disassemble them and clean them properly. It’s a regular event here with my herd that just don’t get enough exercise. Although I ride them a lot more now that I am retired.

Schu good to hear you are getting out and about. I couldn't agree with you more, the carb on the DT125 has worked flawlesly since I cleaned it and it's easy to access. Some of those engineer teams got some things really right and other things were, well rather questionable. Didn't someone say something about not being able to cook an omelette if you don't break eggs, whatever

DOH

I noticed the intakes were hotter than the exhaust, WHAT
and the idle was hanging ! Yuk !
Back to basics - It seems I set the valves for the US model XL250R 0.002 and 0.004 BUT
the Japanese XLX250R is 0.004 and 0.005 makes a difference
it's still not perfect but it does run better, idle doesn't hang and it's a little COOLER lol
( it's too hot outside though, morning and evenings are sweet but the afternoon is a sauna ! )

What scares you trail riders, here are some of the things that knock the breath out of me
- trying to ride when it's over 30*c outside, i'm already slim i dont need to sweat 2kgs off!
- riding long grassy trails that have large hidden rocks and trying to pick a line at the last second!
- braking my clutch lever at the top of a gnarly mountain trail
- loose gravel roads (they make my stomach like jelly, lol )

You happen across a 300 dollar dirt bike that is being sold for parts, and you put on a chain and tires, patch the tube then you find all that was really needed in parts was a new stator and a carb diaphragm and one day a battery!. When the weather gets cooler should be some fun smooth riding ahead
