Congratulations!
Don't feel bad at all. It's really hard to see the points cam "bump" and with an unfamiliar disassembled bike and all the wrong parts you were dealing with it was an easy conclusion to come to. I saw the same "illusion" when I was taking the pictures.
(And I'm sure I'm not alone here when I admit I've had too many of those "DOH!" moments to count while working on these bikes.)
