As said... be careful about spreading the clip... it needs to "drag" and be stiff to slide in the groove in order for the system to work.
Later I'll see if I can find one to take a picture.

I was able to snap the clip into the gear groove. I will be reassembling today. Hope all goes well. My gears appear to be in good shape the pic with damaged teeth w/ red circle is from someone else bike in an earlier post.
Thanks for the advice

Hi sorry to raise the thread DT175 1976 US Model ,my kickstart having issues also the timing all went to crap suddenly resulting in kickstarter engaging on the up stroke of piston (i think) nasty kick back and then it suddenly siezed and engine wouldnt budge, took off head and no damage gave it a good boot and it freed up, took clutch cover off and found some damage to teeth on kickstarter gear my questions being what is the correct reinstallation method for this kickstart? there is a bar under clutch cover i guess the spring goes around that? can anyone supply a photo of corect installation for when i get the new gear? Also any ideas why i wuld suddently get violent kick back on kickstart? have fitted new ignition coil, piston, rings, plug, woodruff key and LH crank seal, could it be condenser related?many thanks is adv D

Digger65 do you think it actually started & ran backward for a few secs as couldn't see a kickback on a 175 doing that much damage.
