HT1 Headlight was created by DVM

Hi all, I have not posted for quite awhile.
Presently I am working on an HT1 for a friend. My friend did a great job of restoring the bike but he brought it to me to sort out some electrical issues. The last issue is that on the headlight both filaments are blown out

. I checked on ebay and HT1 headlights are VERY pricey, approx. $200

. I was hoping to find a 5 inch headlight with an H4 bulb that I could fit into the headlight bucket, but no luck yet. Any members out there know where I might obtain a good HT1 headlight?
In previous years I obtained 5 3/4 inch headlights with H4 bulbs for my CT3 and RT2 from Octain Lighting but I went online and they do not list a 5 inch headlight with H4 bulbs, so no luck there. Any help would be appreciated.

You can use the AT1 headlight with replaceable bulb, correct wattage 6v bulb is like $2 on Amazon.  I sold the two I had.  (I sold mine way too cheap!)

Here's one but you'd need the pigtail/bulb retainer (which can also be found, even aftermarket I think).

Thank you very much Mark. As I really have not worked on the AT1 models so I was not aware that the AT1 headlight is also 5 inches.

I'm not sure on headlight sizes but i possibly incorrectly thought HT1 up to RT3 were the same size but i'm happy to learn.
But what i was gonna say is fit an AC 6 volt single wire bulb saving regulator.
They should've had those from the get go.
But don't think they'd been invented then in 1970. Saves the day--& your pocket-- in the event of the battery running dry or not fitted at all.
Here's mine as found, the day it arrived home  lol.
Didn't look much better when i sold it but it sure performed well.

You're welcome Don!

Here's the info on the bulb:  6v 25w/25w PX15D base.   www.amazon.com/HELLA-A3625-Miniature-Sta...b/dp/B00IKM3AXO?th=1

I think Katie said she used an LED bulb?

Thank you MarkT, RT325, and HT1Kid for your replies. HT1Kid, my friend and I look forward to hearing from you this weekend. Personally I really like the idea of a replaceable bulb in these headlight assemblies.
Mark an LED light is a really good idea. I am using an led light in my CT3 headlight assembly, it really works GREAT! I had to disconnect the yellow line from the magneto to the headlight and attach the headlight to the tail light circuit. I was going to make led headlight kits for the CT's, DT's, and RT's but got sidetracked with life.

When I burned out my original CT1 headlight (before I put a voltage regulator in) I broke out the bulb and fitted a halogen bulb, but it doesn't focus. Makes light for daytime riding, and I don't ride at night anyway. However just recently I ordered a $30 6v sealed beam bulb and put that in with W clips. It seems to work and focuses, though it doesn't provide a whole lot of light for night time riding. One thing I found about the W clips is they don't really hold it very securely, and as I rode the bulb would rotate a bit. I solved that by some using hot glue. The first headlight I received also frosted up on the inside after the first use. I don't know if it was dropped during shipment, but it wasn't frosted until it was lit for a while. I returned it and got a second one, and so far it's been working well. It measures about 5 3/4", and fits the bezel perfectly.

Hello Mark,
First I would like to thank you for educating me concerning the HT1/AT1 headlights.
Although I have done extensive work, both electrical and mechanical, on CT’s, DT's and RT's, as I mentioned in my post I do not have much expertise with HT1/AT1 yamahas.
You mentioned that with the 6V bulb with PX15D base I will need a pigtail/bulb retainer. Is this the socket you were talking about: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HSOQ7KW/ref...A1THAZDOWP300U&psc=1
Thanks,
Don

P.S. HT1Kid, still waiting to hear from you
