1974 DT360 I have 1 hot wire in my headlight when the key is turned on. What would that be for? neutral switch? right now the wire is not hooked up to anything

Is it a light brown wire. If so, then what isn't operating that should be.

Previous posts on other threads say it is a black wire with green sheath. Awaiting photos of it from Jim!

It's a black wire with a green sleeve. I am nor sure what comes on automatically when the key is turned to on.

Should be some manuals somewhere in the tech library you should read through. That will help you know what the switch turns on and in what position.

Exactly.  The wiring diagram in the service manual and/or the text in the service manual almost always includes a "switch legend" chart.
