Gas Tank options (looking for advice) was created by Billy Mild

I made a post a few weeks ago about my recent struggles with the original gas tank. I completely redid this tank(acid dipped, liner, bodywork, paint) when I did the full restoration of the motorcycle over 7 years ago. I noticed some leaking of fluid which I thought was oil but turns out it is from the gas tank/petcock area. The gas has leaked underneath the paint and it causing it flake off. This means I need to fix this tank again or buy another good one. I found some tanks on ebay most are very rusty inside, but I have evaporust that I can use to remove that.

I saw a post on ebay for a BRAND NEW CT-1 tank. It is in raw steel and looks decent. I have seen similar tanks for the RZ350's that are built in India, but they are very poor quality. The fit and finish is far off from an OEM tank.

What path should I pursue? A good old tank that hasn't been lined, a new raw steel tank, or fix what I currently have?

I cannot vouch for the seller, but many of the reproductions have been reported as not accurate or of poor quality. That one looks fairly decent though the petcock mount looks a bit wonky.

i’d be leery unless someone has specific experience with the vendor.

most used tanks have some rust. They are 50 years old and most weren’t optimally stored from new. I haven’t tried to buy a used one in awhile, so I don’t know the current market. Historically, I had tanks dipped to strip to bare metal, the. Go from there, but that may be more than you want to do.

this was the place I have used for stripping: www.americanmetalcleaning.com/contact/ - they may be u deer new owners, but I was extremely happy with the results.
IF it isn't one thing, it's another.
