After realizing that my Trailtech CHT gauges had almost all gone dead...  and after trying to open one up to change the internal battery...  (TrailTech says the battery is not replaceable, they are not lying, even though the unit has screws it's epoxied together or something) I decided to try one of the "Runleader" brand temp gauges recommended by Tom P on another thread.

Yes,  the buttons are fiddly...  it took a bit to get the units set to "F"  and the "alarm temp" set to where I want it.  But it does seem very accurate and once set, it stays set (even if you remove the battery and reinsert it fairly quickly).

Best part is it has a replaceable CR2032 battery!!!  Just remove 4 little screws, swap battery, and replace cover.

For only around $30 shipped from Amazon, its a good product that will hopefully last many years.  (And hopefully the manufacturer will figure out what makes the programming so fiddly... if that was fixed, it would be PERFECT!)

Thanks Tom!

I haven't mounted it yet.  I have some wide plastic 7/8" pole clips I got from West Marine a few years ago that I double stick taped to my Trailtechs...  and then clipped the gauge on the handlebar between the clamps that hold the bars to the bike.  I'll probably reuse those clips.

P.S.  Runleader has a ton of variations...  the one Tom recommended and the one I got is just a simple temp gauge with 14mm spark plug sensor

II emailed Trail Tech to ask about the battery. I was told battery life was approximately 5 years. Installed it after I holed a piston on my DT 400. Ty wrapped mine to the clutch cable. Good unit. Plan to buy a second one for my MX. I see the Runleader offers a handle bar mounting bracket. Looks like it could be used for mounting many different accessories.

Yes, TrailTech is an excellent unit...  I own several.  Used to be around $30 shipped.  Now they seem to be around $50 without shipping.  And it's a bummer when battery goes dead and you have to throw it away.  (Long way of saying I'm a cheapskate! LOL)

Good idea on mounting to cable...  simple, elegant solution!
