Oil leak from an unknown place was created by Ericb1318

I have a 1974 Dt 250a with a mysterious oil leak. I’ve replaced all the seals in the area but it looks like my leak is coming from this part of the crank case. Is there something behind this piece that has a gasket?

You can use an image site like Imgur and post pics still.

Start by using a copper crush washer for the oil plug. You can find them at hardware stores. Take the oil plug with you and buy a few of them. The most common place they leak from is from the drain plug and then with the bike leaning over, it can go in just about any direction except to the right.

Upon the recommendation of unknown parties.. I have stated using Yama-Bond Semi on the clutch side case. Not on both sides. Clean everything twice. Place the new gasket on the center case dry and clean. Clean the outside case ( I use Rubbing Alcohol ) cheap & less toxic than lacquer thinner or acetone. Dab the Yama-Bond Semi Drying on the outside case only on all mating surfaces including the centers, with your finger. ( Not just the outside perimeter ). Leave enough material to squish. Button it up and give it a few days to cure. Don’t clean the compressed material. Leave it alone. It’s not SEMA.

Load pics via a hosting site if possible as would help 'us' help you. I know you know that sorry but see how you go. I use google photos & link it. Not sure why i use them but seems to work. I don't have 'any' gasket on my 360 & doesn't leak a drop using $2 shop eliminator crap in a tube. Can get red or blue haha--exciting stuff Not. NOTE--i'm not recommending doing 'that' but hate making gaskets & 'if' you can find a new one down here they cost stupid money. I'm just saying--i think i'm saying--cover shouldn't be difficult to seal up unless there's a problem like a crack in the case.

I figured out how to use Imgur today :)

The first pic shows the screw driver pointing to the circular piece directly above the shifter and directly below the drive shaft sprocket. I pulled the front sprocket off and could see no oil leaking. The only place I see oil leaking is from the circular piece that doesn’t have a gasket or anything. Looks like the only way to get to it is to split the cases. Thanks for the help. It leaks just enough to nag the crap out of me.

Looks like a blind plug. Item # 19 on the Shifter1 parts diagram page. Part # 90334-10006-00.

You might be able to pick it out or drill a small hole and run a sheet metal screw into it and pull it out. But if you run into clearance issues with the shaft on the other side and can't get it out you might be committed to splitting the cases. On the '73 and earlier there 2 of them and they have a different part # and are hard rubber. I was able to remove one with no trouble.

Be sure the oil leak isn't coming from the countershaft seal or spline shaft and leaking down on the plug and below. Much more common then that plug leaking.
