Need to touch up my tank etc for ‘72 LS2 which I definitely do not want to repaint. Any ideas where I can secure would be most appreciated

Check with your local Sherwin-Williams or automotive paint store. Some have "color match" cameras they can use to get pretty close... not sure what minimum quantity would be though.

There are several motorcycle paint places online like ColorRite that might have a match too. Most don't have the best online catalog but if you email them with the years and colors sometimes they can help. Yamaha often used the same paint on different models.

72 LS2 should be:
Yamaha Blue (code 13)
Pearl White (code 46)

Of course those codes probably won't mean anything to a modern paint shop but if ColorRite has a Yamaha Blue #13 for a XS650, it should be the same as your LS2.

Try eBay seller joa0120

He has 1 ounce containers of paint custom mixed for vintage colors. Touch up can vary depending on age and patina. For $25 it's worth a try.
The hours spent riding my Enduros is not deducted from my life span.

Ahhh... the proper color touchup paint conundrum. Been there for sure. And MarkT suggestion of ColorRite is a good one. Someone on a different thread (here??) a few years back suggested these guys:  RS Motorbike Paint Colors. Based out of the UK I think? I ordered some touchup paint for a '73 RD250 ("Butterfly Blue") from them with appropriate base and it came way faster than I ever would have thought. Good match too. I looked up your bike on their site and it just came up with black for the frame. But the significant thing is you have the Yamaha color codes!

Also, you could try Randy Marbles at Marbles Motors. He is on eBay and supplies some very good quality paint but it is breath-takingly expensive. If you gave him the codes perhaps he could match? If you go to eBay and search for "Marbles Motors" I think he should pop up.

I do not understand why I cannot copy/paste the links here for you.

You can't post because ebay has blocked "hotlinking". The forum software is set up to insert a preview of the ebay link. Used to work fine. But since ebay blocks this, the link is blank.

"You can still copy and past the url, though."

That doesn't work for me or for most people for some reason.  Maybe you can post a tutorial on how you do it.

The link shows up fine in the post composition box.  Then when I hit "submit", and it publishes to forum, link is gone.

You gentlemen are so awesome, thanks for all the tips!

I am going to take some pics tomorrow and see if I can post. In summary:
- bike 100% complete
- got a clean title and already registered
- as usual, there is ways an interesting set of reasons why bike was parked, this one pretty interesting
- mag side seal popped out
- one piston has a hole
- other rod bent
- all bearings minus small end of toasted side good
- tank nice
- oil pump a mess

completely stripped to frame
crank out to a local guru OC racing shop who I’ve used before who’s quite good. Got rod, new big end bearing for bent side thought being even though big end is in spec that it was overloaded and maybe rollers compromised

bores 1st over with 2500 miles on clock. So new wrist pins bearings piston and a hone

got another junk oil pump and now set to make two into one real nice one.

carbs really corroded with white crap.  I found yet another use for evaporust!  Now clean as a whistle.

wheels and chrome and forks really nice.  Got new bakes and tires tubes.

paint work rubbed out pretty nice but lots of chips etc hence touch up paint. New knock off  badges coming from Jakarta.  FYI I never had a bad experience with people in this part of the world.  Really straight up imo

wife working tomorrow so I am going to power wash and clean bare frame and paint.

oh left hand switch has broken Bakelite thingy for r l switch but I learned 5 bikes ago to throw nothing out and had what I needed and Mr Deet is booking me up with some connectors etc.

And like every other “ram when parked” when I am done I will be around $2k all in.  Maybe break even, told wife it’s too small and I will sell but she knows I am a liar, and I don’t care.

sorry for rambling but I am pretty pumped about this little guy.

Well, the above test seems to have worked.

All I do is copy the complete https:// etc at the top of the page I'm looking at and paste it into this forum.

Previously I was using an old PC with Windows 7 (which has now died

) and so am now using a new PC with Windows 11 that Gr8auntiepat bought and set up for me.
