What am i doing wrong. I just see a damaged spring in the Imgur link. What sprng is that [not ball & spring--spring] Hard to tell the size.

You probably aren't doing anything wrong. I messed up the link most likely to only show one picture. I did not take the pump out to see if the ball was in there. But I do remember that being part of the kit to rebuild. Since replacing the line no more oil leak, and no bleed back of oil.
