Ts185 no spark, no clue what is wrong. was created by YamahaForumUsername

So i have a 1971  ts185 that has no spark. Since i found it, I installed a new carb, and it started exactly 2 times, each time on the first kick. After that, it is dead. The CDI box tests correctly according to the CLYMER. SO i went to the coil and removed it, tested it and the secondary side was dead (i think, this was a while ago). SO i bought a used one from ebay, and it still has no spark, and the secondary is also dead, so im starting to think my testing method is flawed and the First coil wasnt as dead as i thought it was.

Bike Was started with no battery installed in the circuit , and still has no battery so i dont think that would be the problem. Bike has No lights at all so they are all open circuits, but as i said it started twice and was turned off each time with the key.

Anyone have any idea what could be going on here. sorry for the gigantic picture.

Wow they went CDI early on compared to yamaha. I'd suspect the source coil as a likely cause--heat, vibration & all that.
How are you testing the secondary coil. The primary side of the secondary won't show much--like about one ohm guessing testing between that wire & the coil framework. But should get up in the thousands testing between plug lead & framework or plug lead back to the small coil wire.
Not sure about testing the sourcy thing but i'd guess 350 ohms if you can decide which wire or two wires come from the source. Looks like a high speed piggy back coil there too [partzilla] but i'm wildly guessing that the source needs to work before the high seed is involved.
But wait==i'm wrong--the piggy back says pulser coil so defo could be faulty & wildly guessing again at about 100 ohms.
Really ya looking for open circuit rather that a slight variation, although if the source got too low like under 200 it might not spark without a tow down the road or spin up with a reverse drill with spark plug out & earthed.

Possible that cdi boxes from other models could work too if the wire colors are the same.
