Fork seal removal was created by principal282

Got the forks off and new seals ready. Ever so carefully got the dust cap cover and dust cap off. Drained and disassembled fork and took pics.

im stuck getting this fork seal out.
out has come a clip (not ancirclip), a washer.
nothing left but scraps of rubber.  I have been oh so careful not to rush, beat in it, pry more than a gentle amount slightly.
look at this pic.  Am I missing anything else before this bugger shakes loose?

What i do [& not recommending but never had a problem] & carefully with a decent wide-ish flat blade screw driver--i find the steel part of the seal & angle inwards & with the screwdriver biting at an angle just give it a smack & collapse it in away from the wall.
Pretty much falls out then. Just don't touch the alloy housing, only the seal top edge.
Alternatively you could heat around there but to get hot enough to be useful it'll burn the clear cote--go darkish. Might be ok as clear would start from just past that come to think.

Be careful. The fork tube is very thin and brittle where the seal is inserted. With the circlip and washer removed I soak the tube upside down in a can of penetrating oil for a few days. Pull it out and hit it with a propane torch every few hours and put it back in the can. Then use a 2 jaw slide hammer to pull it straight out.

The hours spent riding my Enduros is not deducted from my life span.

Thanks everyone! I did get it. Wd40, a touch of warming it up, and a home fabricated adapter for the slide hammer. Let’s hope nmr 2 comes out much easier tomorrow.

If you have a steady hand, cutting into the seal with an air die grinder, is pretty much risk-free. When the metal seal is cut almost through, it will be easy to collapse and remove. Any sort of levering or force, means a possibility of damaging the slider.

I just replaced mine on my 250 this morning so i thought i would share my homemade puller. I took a big washer and ground flat spots on it so i could shove it down inside past the seal. Simply slide the washer onto a long bolt with a nut on the end, slip the washer down past the seal, turn it so it butts flush against the inside of the seal, clamp the bolt in a vice with the head pressing against the outer edge of the vice and grab a hold of the fork tube and use that as your slide hammer to pop it out. Has work great for me several times and has not caused any damage.  Unfortunately i cant seem to get the image to upload but hopefully it makes sense.
