'79YZF400 Conrod Same as '79ITF400? was created by GaryInVA

Want to rebuild the crank in my 79 IT400F. The only conrod rebuild kit I can find is for a 79 YZ400F. Are these parts interchangeable? I'm ready to pull the trigger on buying this kit from England.

Thanks.

Caveat, I know nothing and have no experience of these bikes.

My go to method for this type of question is to look at the online parts lists on CMSNL and Partzilla. I have attached a link to the Partzilla page, which suggests that both bikes used the same part. However, maybe wait for someone who has knowledge of these bikes to reply.

Look at the Mitaka website, and see if any of the rods they list are the same as yours. There are drawings with rod dimensions.

Looks like IT & YZ of "79 were the same conrod.
"79 was one year only small bore long stroke YZ & IT, [had a YZ new out of the crate & faulty gear dogs broke off third gear in the first blast around the paddock. No damage & importer supplied the gear. Was lucky--in a way--for the importer--that i drew the short straw on that bike & not a customer. Bought it through my work [yamaha shop]. Went on to be one of my most enjoyable YZ's--then the G model arrived--whole new ball game lol.
I've use the 2X5 piston kit in two of my 360's. 82mm. Normal [earlier & later] 400's are 85mm.
So that was a long story about nothing lol.

Thanks all,

I ended up ordering a rod, crankpin, shims, and big/small ends bearings from a shop in England.
