1977 Dt250 E-bike conversion was created by 77biker

Hey there. My name is Mark and I have a lost title bike that I can't register and plate. A big disappointment to say the least. I was wondering if anyone has done an E- conversion? If so, how did it turn out?

Unless it's stolen, you can register in Vermont and get a plate. You do not need a Vermont address or anything.

Then if you want to, you can almost always transfer to your state. Vermont will not title old vehicles so other states convert Vermont registration to a title. Or just leave it registered in Vermont.

How do you all “deal” with the 300cc and over requirement that Vermont has? Enquirering minds want to know.

I'm not sure what your concern is because you didn't specify....

And I don't know how to say it better than I already did "Vermont will not title old vehicles so other states convert Vermont registration to a title. Or just leave it registered in Vermont"

Your bike is over 15 years old and it's under 300cc's SO VERMONT WILL NOT ISSUE A TITLE.  You will get registration and a license plate.  Then you should be able to go to your state with the Vermont registration and tell them Vermont doesn't issue titles.  In my state (and I've heard most states... I haven't heard of any that don't) they look it up and then accept the Vermont registration and issue you a title and registration.  You'll have to check your state.

This will not work if the bike is stolen or maybe if they have recent owner records at your DMV.  So if you've opened up a can of worms at your DMV it's probably best to just keep it registered in Vermont for a few years or something.  There are also services that will get you paperwork that you can use to get a title for a few hundred bucks...  Some of them just register in Vermont for you and then tell you to take the Vermont registration to your DMV and ask for title/registration... which you could have done yourself.  Some do a better job than that.
