My condolences on your loss.... what a bummer.
Unless you think some how gas got in through the vent on top of the cover, I'm guessing crank seal.

Ok, we got to the root of the problem of the bike. I started the bike at some point over the winter and turned the petcock in the wrong position. Fuel was slowing over flowing the carb. There isn't really a grommet on the magneto wire so the case filled to the top. There was no gas in the oil when I drained it. You guys called it. Thank god I didn't blow up. LOL.
The Car: I didn't have full coverage. It wasn't worth it for such an old car with high miles. The extra monthly cost of full coverage and the premium increase for a claim negate any payout in the long run. The eggheads behind the curtain have algorithms working overtime to make sure I don't come out ahead. In the insurance Ponzi scheme the house always wins. I will need to buy a car and tools. The tools will be $500-$600. I will find a deal on a car. I am a car flipper at heart.
I will be back in touch when I refurbish this bike. I have had other projects in the way but its time is getting close.
Thanks for the help,
Bill

That makes perfect sense. Glad you figured it out! Good luck on finding a replacement car and tools.

Thanks for the update. I think we're all on the same page now. Sounds like cars are a dime a dozen & hope ya find a good one. Loosing tools is a bugger, especially if there's special tools amongst them. What 'was' the car. Looks modern compared to what we get down here in NZ.

Hey Guys,
Here is a picture of the bike. It really is one of my favorite bikes. I had one in the early 2000s for about 3 years. It was my favorite bike to ride. I missed it and bought this one 5 years ago. The frame was painted but the tin looks to be original. The cylinder is on its stock bore. It is next on the list for a full refurbish but it runs great now. It is going on a ride today.
The car was a 1999 Honda Civic with 150k miles. It was good cheap transportation that was pretty bad cosmetically but had older mag wheels. It is crazy that someone would commit a felony level crime to swap out a crusty old interior and rims. The tools will be $600 to replace. Not the end of the world. Another car will come up.
Thanks again,
Bill
