73 DT3 250 w/74 front fender was created by Phyllo
I always wanted a ‘73, always loved the “Competition Green”. Finally found a nice complete one last fall on eebay and decided to go for it, and won the auction. She had been mostly well-cared for, but I don’t think the previous owner was mechanically inclined and he knew it was going to take some effort and money soon. Not perfect (still isn’t, and that’s ok with me), but I’ve been pecking away, getting her cleaned up and up-to-snuff functionally (new brake shoes, new tires, air filter, carb o-ring, oil seals, etc,).
The low fenders have their own unique coolness but I always wondered how this bike would look with a high front fender. I was only interested in trying it if I could figure out how to make it look “factory “.
I was a little surprised to find 2 M8 tapped holes on the lower triple clamp that didn’t seem to have any purpose. So, I got out my metric scale and some paper and pencil and started trying to design a bracket. In the meantime, I had found a proper ‘74 design fender available from DC Plastics in grey.
I removed the steering damper (which didn’t seem to do anything, in my opinion). After about 4 redesigns, I had a bracket I thought would work. I work for a manufacturing company and a co-worker generously offered to cut and drill the bracket for me. Luckily enough, it all fit together and results are in the pics. The cable holder was NOS off eebay and bolted right on to the fork slider.

Thanks! If anyone wants a drawing of the bracket, let me know. I will provide if you promise to get the cable retainer…
