Not sure if this is normal. This is my first two stroke. Just hooked had it running with premix previously because I was unsure if the pump was working. I bled the oil pump and rotated it a few times wide open throttle to make sure it was pumping at least something. It was. It was smoking a lot so I drained the tank and put straight gas but can't remember if the tick was there previously. Smokes very minimal but the tick concerns me

Thanks for the Vid. It's very much piston rattle. So bad in fact that it sounds like a first over bore with a std piston--lots of clearance.

The bike had been sitting for decades. I've heard something about putting I believe tans fluid in the cylinder to possibly free up piston rings. Is that something that can be tried on these?

I'll look into a piston kit if possible for these. Probably a gasket set as well

Just lift the cylinder, easy to do on those. Undo exhaust at the cylinder then 4 nuts on the head & it all comes off. Then lets see whats in there. Pack rag under the piston & into the case mouth then see if you can get the piston off without too much trouble. Circlip out, & be careful where it pings off to if you slip. Best take both circlips out so you can get a good go at pushing the gudgeon pin out. Be extra careful not to catch the needle bearing pushing pin through. Pin might be a sliding push for a few mm then bump the ridge from where circlip sat in the groove. Best get another pair of hands to hold a block of wood against the piston while you tap away. Won't have to push hard with the wood, just enough to counteract you tapping away. Might need wood with a hole for the pin to come through or just put the wood out of the way of pin. Hole in wood keeps i supported centraly which is good. Ok i'm overstating it--But!! stuff happens. Need to know how much piston clearance & my guess is 15 thou. Or its been seized Big Time or run dry on oil for a while.

Just took the head off. But i can't feel any grooves with my finger nails in the walls. To me it doesn't look terrible but I don't have the gauges to measure the roundness but that looks good as well at least to me

Thanks for pics & the video but ya gonna have to lift the cylinder to see the true story. The top of the piston looks like a strange pattern or is it just light trick reflection of something. Piston not been hitting the head?. Gasket overhanging etc. Need to know whats going on in the piston shirt are & with piston off--if you get to that point--try a feeler blade at the shirt base to get an idea of excess clearance. & i'm going to look silly [more than usual] if clearance is ok. But rattled bad.

Does the whole cylinder slide off those same bolts? And do I use a piston ring compressor to put the piston back in from the bottom? Really trying to avoid yanking the whole motor but might be where I ended up. Here's a pic of the piston up top. I think it's a reflection from the cylinder walls casting that strange pattern but I'll take it out and get a better look.
