If my parents saw me now I would be in big trouble. I am too old to be asking you guys this. I am 75 and am looking at buying a 1975 -175 TY. At my age my heart says DO IT cause I want to! My rational parent side says what are you doing a collectors item. Where will you get seals, rubber for the air filter carb. carb parts, points and condensers for this museum piece?!! What beauty and simplicity compared to 2023 fuel injection and abs. Let me know if my fear of part availability and if I should look at a XT 225 or buy the XT 250 I sold two years ago and sit on the porch with a bowl of ice cream in a rocker.

More power to you! The only question I have, based on your reference to the XT’s is if you know the TY is a true trials bike, not an enduro?

TY175's were great trials bikes for their class with heavy flywheel & stuff. Might've been two variations of one with lights & roadworthy with slightly more road raked out fork angle. & one setup ready for trials--steep steering & no lights. Might be thinking of the 80cc TY80 as got both versions down here in NZ. I had a std one for the kids & screwed footrests straight into where there's a fitting for splined footrests but i just went straight into the 10mm thread with something straight with a footrest rubber on. Then a normal gear lever & sit down normal handlebars plus better seat. Was good for the kids to learn on the farm [not trials as such]. Very forgiving motor.

Parts availability may surprise you, Yamaha is good at using some parts from the 70's through current models.
