Head Light not working for 68 DT1 was created by LuckyLuke

My headlight for my DT1 is not working and not sure if anyone knows how best to trouble shoot this problem.  Also, this may seem like a silly question, but is it possible that it only works if the engine is running?

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Yes, the headlight only works with the engine running, it runs off the magneto.

This is good to know.  If it still doesn't work when my engine is running then I will need to trouble shoot the magneto, correct?  I have had it running, but have yet to try the head lights when it is.

Thanks for your help with this.

does your bike still have the key switch? the ignition switch has 2 on positions, engine run and headlight off and engine run headlight on.

Appreciate the follow-up Dave.

Yes it does have a key switch.   I installed a new fully charged battery and the horn and brake light worked when I put the ignition switch in the first position.   I thought that the headlight would also work with a battery if I put the ignition switch in the second position.  Now I know that is not the case.  When I had the magneto apart I noticed it had been worked on and so I don't know if it will run the headlight with the engine running (see the photo).  I will try starting the bike today now that I know that the engine is needed to drive the power for the headlight.  I know the bulb works as I tried it on the battery.

Thanks again for you help with this.
