Oil tank sight glass removal was created by RustiePyles
What is the best way to remove the sight glass from an autolube tank (DT175B)? Mine has been heavily rattle canned and I'm about to hit it with some epoxy stripper and then into the E-tank but it looks really easy to distort the sight glass bung trying to remove it. I do plan on replacing the sight glass so I'm not worried about damaging it, I'm more concerned with saving the reservoir.

Drill window and thread screw into window to pull it. Several posts here showing the technique. "Search Forum" works pretty well here... Best way to find the forum search is the button next to "HOME" called "FORUMS"... then select "SEARCH FORUM" from the menu.
Here's a recent thread: yamaha-enduros.com/index.php/forums/1972...-glass-removal#95075
Here's a thread from GFrench with a picture and some other things like making sure the screen is clear while cleaning the tank.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. I'll try and pop it out this weekend. Do you know if that brass mesh screen is the only non-ferrous part in that oil reservoir? My E-tank will remove any rust in short order but it will totally deteriorate any non-ferrous parts.

I found one of these in one once...
Pretty sure it didn't belong there....
What was that oil that came in the small pull tab cans? Bardahl?

Ya I'm sure that was it "Lawnboy Oil"..... No one would every have an open can of beer near a bike especially back in the 70's

The oil I'm thinking of was sold in quarts and pints at motorcycle shops. The pints were tall skinny cans with a pull tab.
When I was 9 or 10 I got a lawnmower repair manual for my birthday for the mini bike I was building from old parts... my Dad took me to the lawnmower shops to scrounge around and try to find parts. I thought the Lawnboys were cool. I don't remember ever even seeing a Lawnboy in Southern California... I'm pretty sure it wasn't Lawnboy oil.
I seem to remember it was Bardahl but this morning Hi Point comes to mind. I guess I'll have to do an Internet search later.
