Hello from SoCal was created by KeepTheYENGIN

Hey guys, a bit about me
I’m a heavy equipment mechanic, and a backyard mechanic for all my own vehicles and bikes. I’ve been riding all my life, never had a need for speed. Just like to cruise and dual sport, but recently started racing vintage motocross. Coming in last every race, with a huge smile on my face. Slowly and surely getting faster. Here’s my bike list, starting with the important one

1978 Yamaha DT250
1978 Yamaha IT400
2003 KTM 525EXC
1979 Honda XR500
1996 RM125
1997 RMX250

Ill be posting a thread in the right the sub about the DT250. Basically, seems lacking on power. I’ve got a running IT400, wondering how simple the engine swap would be. Thanks in advance and hello!

 from near Salisbury, UK.

Lack of power on the DT250 could be down to restrictive air filter (standard fitted?) or a choked up exhaust (stick it on a bonfire!).

"Lack of power" compared to the list of bikes is likely a "standard feature".

Welcome from NZ. I actualy fitted a "78 IT400 into a "78 DT250. By memory I adapted an IT or yz490 or 465 exhaust but I had to add about 4 inches into the header pipe because someone had ported it & raised the exhaust port to close to 200 degrees duration so was like a lights switch 125 on steroids haha. Anyway, doing that made it very usable. I'll see if I can find some pics as sold it about 30 years ago & was a regular in VMX for longer than I was. Talking of "78 that's my age lol, but can still remember those fun days, when I could weld everything up at work "Yamaha shop" but now oxyacetylene cost too much to have sitting around for occasional use.
