OK, I'm getting close to the finish line on this build, I need some gas tank advice please. Take a peek at the below pictures and see if you have some constructive comments on direction the forum would take, the 75 tank has a rust pinholes and would take some brazing to fix, the DT100 tank I stole from another project but is in pretty good shape. Maybe I just drive it this summer and fix the tank in the fall.

I have a clean but dented original tank, a 1975 DT100 Tank, a 1975 DT175 Tank, and a 1976 DT125 Tank. They all fit perfectly except the '76 DT125 Tank, the front ear spacing is good but its almost exactly 1" too long and will not work.

I like the dented original tank the best. Just my opinion, but it matches and the dent adds some character.

I'm wondering if you had the front mounting pucks in place when installing the 1975 175 tank on the 1976 frame?

My experience is the 1976 tank is wider at the pucks than the 1975 version by about 3/8"... and the 1976 tank is slightly longer. A 1975 tank will not fit my 1976 frame with the rubber pucks installed.

Similarly, my 1976 tank on my 1975 frame is "too wide" and can be pushed side to side.

Thanks.

I'm with Charlie on this. Use the dented OE tank. Also , I would be interested in the 76 DT 125 tank, if it's for sale.

Thanks for the responses, I think so too, I'll just live with the dented tank for this summer then maybe redo it next winter....

This doesn't work...the metal is too thick for this el cheapo setup, the glue stuck well enough to remove some of the paint but the puller just broke..metal rod pulled out of plastic base glued to the tank, I had to remove the glue with acetone . I just wanted the tank a little rounder and less caved in..

Yep, I like the original tank as well. There are special tools that auto shops use to repair dents from the inside. Around here they call it "paint-less dent repair". John

Good morning,
I couldn't get the PM to work, but would you still happen to have that 1975 175 tank, and be willing to part with it? I'm having a heck of a time finding a decent one on Ebay.

Thanks!
