74 DT360 Lower Throttle cable. was created by Canull7004

I am almost finished restoring 74 DT360. I had purchased a lower throttle cable on ebay and also bought a new carburetor. I had some issues fitting cable on cap but have soldered the old fitting to the new one. I started looking back and noticed I have purchased cable 438-26312-00-00. The cable for this bike is 498-26312-00-00. It looks right but wondering if anyone knows the difference between these as far as length etc...
I am attaching pic from previous thread discussing these cables.

Sure . . . . I have lots of the lower Enduro cables in my inventory.

Part numbers 498 & 500 are exactly the same, except for the rubber carb cap boot

Both measure as follows:
~ total length of inner oil pump wire = 24"
~ total length of inner carb wire = 22-1/4"

~ total length of outer oil pump cable = 20-7/8", . . . . W/8" heat guard spring
Note: (all slack removed from the outer cable's adjusted nuts > > > as short as possible)
~ total length of outer carb cable (including the plastic cable union tube) = 19-5/8"

The 438 cable is identical to the two cables above, except for the following:
~ smaller rubber carb cap boot
~ 6" cable heat guard springs
~ Inner throttle wire is 1/4" shorter ... (22"), . . . because it had a shorter distance to move the smaller DT250's throttle slide

I just read this blog and have a question.

I am restoring a 74 DT 250. Thinking I was going to replace the throttle cable when I disassembled the oil pump, I cut the end of the oil pump cable as I pulled the pump. I know - stupid. Now I am trying to figure out how long that cable was in order to have Deet make one.

Partszilla says a DT250 calls for #498-26312-00-00 lower calble.
My cable does have 6" heat guard springs as mentioned below and dimensions are.

Carb Wire - 23-7/8" (stretching it as far as it goes)
Oil pump wire - 21-3/4" at cut length (wondering if original length was 22" like mentioned below)

Do you have a lower cable available?
Thanks
Tom

.

Here's the specs for the 74 Yamaha DT250A cable:

Part number . . . 438-26312-01
Oil pump inner wire . . . 24"
Oil pump outer sheath . . . 20 & 7/8"
Carb inner wire . . . 22"
Carb outer sheath . . . 19 & 5/8"
Heat guard spring . . . 6"

Partzilla is wrong to say the 74 250 takes the 498 cable, that'd be the 360 cable . . . bigger carb = 1/4" longer throttle cable wire

I would just like to take a moment to send props and kudos to Enduronut. You have assisted many of us here, and on the 'other' website, and without your intimate knowledge of things like this many of us would be scratching our heads, and desperately trying to make our bikes work without knowing just what the source of our issues is/are.

So, many thanks to you sir!! :Buds

Enduronut,
Thank you very much for the clarification and help!!!
You probably noticed that I was incorrect on the naming of the cables. The shorter of the two is the carb, but I was calling it the oil pump.
Appreciate the assistance!
