76 DT175 - Kickstart Grip was created by bbriselli

Two kickstarter questions for a 1976 DT175:

(1) To replace the grip the flared metal end I think won't allow a new one to go on easily. Anyone know if that part screws off maybe before I torque it too hard and cut off the old grip?

(2) if I replace the kickstart spring is there any clever ways to get the snap ring off easily? It's a bit awkward to force the spring back and try to pry it off at the same time. I used to have the snap ring pliers but no idea where they are at the moment. Photo below. Thanks.

I can make a suggestion for item 1 but have never messed with item 2.

I installed all of my new kickstart rubbers by opening my vice wide enough that I could use it as a press to squeeze the sleeve over the flared head. I lube it first and you have to hold it in position during the process. But it works like a champ.
