DT175A / 1974 Exhaust options was created by tee_cee
Hi All,
I'm having my engine ported, and would like to find an expansion chamber exhaust that will fit my 1974 DT175. I see one on eBay - an Indonesion DRY described as 1974 - 1981.
Ther's also a Columbian DT125 pipe with no year information:
The original Yamaha 443-14610 is listed as 1974 - 1975 only. This is the style that crosses through the frame over the carb from right to left.
Does anyone know if the later year changes are relatively minor?
Has anyone found something else that works?
Thanks!

Schu is probably the expert... rare to find a pipe for 74-75 but they did make them back in the day.
I found the ad on ebay for the 74-81... it looks like a "monoshock" pipe to me... 78-81. Not even close to the same as the 74-75.
There are some pipe builders that might make them... sometimes there's a local guy you can take the bike to but not sure how to find those guys.
There was a company in Texas... Circle F I think... that made pipes for some of the enduros and has the jigs for them. I think they have a Facebook page. Not sure if they're still around.
AMS Racing in Arizona caters more to vintage motocross but I spoke to them years ago and they gave me a lead on a 74 TS Suzuki pipe.

It took me years to find a pipe for my DT175B but when I did it was the best I could ask for. It’s a J&R pipe that was never used. It came with the silencer and all the hardware. It even had the instructions and a J&R decal. But man was it expensive. I jumped on it immediately and have never seen one again.
The only other pipes I’ve found for the crossover style exhaust are for the bigger bore bikes and most of them are Bassani brand and they rarely have the silencer anymore.
I’d be interested in knowing the quality of the ones you had mentioned. It might be your only option. I have heard other people say the same as MarkT regarding Circle F still making pipes for some of the old enduros.
Good luck!

Many years ago when i used to ride a CT1 to work i fitted what was by memory a through the frame MX175 exhaust. I had to modify it to go straight along like earlier models did. But man did it wake it up & about doubled the top end power & revved out of sight, not that you had to, was good all the way building stronger as the revs rose. Was back in the days at work when we'd get the redundant stock list once in a while & pretty much fighting over stuff haha. Would have been in the twin shock MX175 so much like your DT175A "74 frame i'm guessing--lot of guessing as 40 odd years ago.

Since the DT175A and B are siblings to the MX125/175 variant of the same years, one of their pipes (as well as the YZ125A-B ) should slip right on through. The frames are nearly identical save for a few items but that should be an easy way to pump up your DT .
